Your acknowledgment of my practice has made me feel happy and uplifted. I love painting and I have always created art since being a young child. I feel the best is yet to come! Thank you Homiens.” Clara Wilkinson (Highly Commended in the Homiens Art Prize, Winter 2025)
“Receiving an honorable mention from Homiens has been an immense joy and a profound validation of my work as a sculptor. In the day-to-day creative process—made up of silent effort, study, and long hours in the studio—it’s not always clear what impact one’s work can have. Therefore, I receive this recognition with gratitude and as a renewed impetus to continue creating. My practice focuses on realistic sculpture, with a clear commitment: to convey pleasant, serene, and human feelings to those who view my works. I believe in the power of form, matter, and detail to touch something essential in the viewer. In a world where the strident and the ephemeral predominate, I am interested in creating pieces that invite calm, aesthetic appreciation, and a deep, yet subtle, emotional connection. I carefully work on the finish and elegance of each sculpture, ensuring that each work not only stands on its own merits but also exudes harmony, intention, and presence. For me, beauty is not a superficial concept, but a way of offering solace, dignity, and space for contemplation. Throughout my artistic journey, I’ve learned that every work takes its time, and that each stage leaves traces that build a unique voice. This recognition confirms that this path makes sense and encourages me to continue forward, with honesty and dedication. Thanks to Homiens for highlighting the work of so many committed artists. And thank you also for inviting me to share these words, which are born from the sincere emotion of being part of this community.” Blasco Rivero (Highly Commended in the Homiens Art Prize, Winter 2025)
“I’m deeply grateful for this recognition, and I truly appreciate the time and care the jurors took in considering my work. This acknowledgment means a great deal to me, especially as an emerging artist navigating the evolving intersections of identity, culture, and spirituality in my practice. Much of my work is rooted in personal memory and a sense of displacement — and to have that emotional and conceptual weight seen and appreciated by others is incredibly affirming. Although I did not progress to the finalist stage, this commendation has reminded me that the work I’m doing resonates beyond my own studio. It encourages me to keep pushing the boundaries of my practice, and to continue creating work that speaks to themes of transformation, heritage, and selfhood. Thank you again for this honour. I look forward to staying connected with the Homiens community and seeing the wonderful work from fellow artists in this round.” Nadia Da Silva (Highly Commended in the Homiens Art Prize, Winter 2025)

“We’re incredibly honored to have been highly commended in the Homiens Art Prize. When we take these photos, it’s often early in the morning, often rather cold, and it’s easy to imagine that they may never reach an audience or find a viewer that connects with them and is moved by similar stuff as we are. It’s incredibly reinvigorating to our practice to know that someone somewhere is connected to us through these images. Many heartfelt thanks from the both of us to the committee responsible for the Homiens Art Prize and the work that they put in for the entire arts community, and our congratulations to all of the artists.” Nathan Matteson and Barbara Raidl (Highly Commended in the Homiens Art Prize, Fall 2024)

“As an emerging artist without gallery representation, it can be frustrating and difficult to acquire the institutional recognition that every ambitious young artist craves. The Homiens Art Prize’s unrestricted and non-acquisitive cash awards are an amazing form of support, but even beyond that is their commitment to affording artists all around the world access to a network made up of public institutions, collectors, curators, and practitioners. In my case, this network and exposure is more valuable than almost any bank note because it is through these connections that an artist can establish a longstanding, successful career. It wasn’t very long ago that I was just barely paying my bills painting pets and picking up any commissioned work that I could. But through perseverance and support systems like Homiens, I am given the opportunity to focus on making the kind of paintings I want to make and establish my artistic voice in front of the right audience.” Jackson Wrede (Shortlisted for the Homiens Art Prize, Spring 2024)
