Artist Statement
Sun-Joy is acrylic on canvas in portrait. The main colours are bronze, gold and silver. The composition is reminiscent of the sun and holds a sense of joy. Sun-Joy was created on the few sunny days in East Anglia in late spring 2024. It was created to be hung in a bright garden office to complement the shiny walnut floor.
Wendy was thinking about enjoying the sunshine while painting and how happy she was to be painting for her loved husband who requested the work. Some of the painting was done in the garden en plein air.
A close up view of the centre shows the variety of colours in this small area. Many shades of pink are visible here. These pink shades are hard to distinguish when viewing the painting as a whole. Gold, silver and bronze are each dominant in different areas of the canvas. The colours radiate in a spiral from the centre imitating the structure of the sun.
Artist Biography
Wendy is a passionate artist who infuses her vibrant abstract creations with deep joy, bright energy and gratitude. Though Wendy first studied art in school and art groups, she took a 30-year detour into the insurance industry, earning a maths degree and completing the actuarial exams. It was during a challenging time that she rekindled her love for painting, using it as a way to bring joy into her life. Encouraged by a colleague, Wendy joined the prestigious Lloyd’s Art Group, where her role as a consultant to insurers, including Lloyd’s syndicates, made her a perfect fit. This November, her work will be showcased in the iconic Lloyd’s building as well as exhibitions at galleries in Halifax, Sheffield, and London. Wendy was recently part of a month-long exhibition in Edinburgh exploring menopause.
Wendy’s abstract art, inspired by her rural surroundings and childhood memories of living by the sea, is a dance of vibrant colour, marks, and layered shapes. Her paintings, rich in texture and colour, invite viewers to share in the deep emotions she feels during their creation. Through her art, Wendy aims to guide others to peace and happiness, nourishing both her and those who experience her work.
