Artist Biography
I’ve had an artistic urge since before I could talk. I didn’t learn to talk until I was three years old. Part of me thinks it took me so long because what good are words when I can show you what I am communicating? Art was my first language. This laid the foundation for me to become a conceptual artist who works in mixed media, such as painting, film, special effects makeup, sculpture, and photography. My artwork explores themes of intergenerational trauma/strengths and its intertwined history portrayed through the laws of entropy. Through visual representation and magical realism, my characters have different organic life forms growing on or out of their bodies. What is growing from a person’s body symbolizes who they are and what they have gone through. The elements shift to show how the characters are healing or digressing. When people experience my work, I hope that they think of something difficult from their past and think about how it has changed them, in both good and bad ways, and how it can help them grow. My work is ultimately my way of recognizing and healing from trauma.
