Artist Biography
Hansa Sethi (b. 1995) is a psychological artist whose practice investigates mental and emotional states through lived experience. Shaped by prolonged encounters with depression, numbness, and internal collapse, her work translates non-verbal psychological conditions into dense, repetitive visual structures.
Elements often perceived as decorative—recurring palettes, spirals, and gestures—are not stylistic choices but traces of mental stasis: evidence of a consciousness immobilized while the external world continues. These repetitions function as mechanisms of endurance rather than ornament.
Painting began as a necessity during periods of psychological rupture and gradually became a means of re-entering sensation. Her practice remains an ongoing inquiry into mental health, emotional fracture, and psychological return.
Imposter marks a decisive shift in her practice. Amid earlier uncertainty around classification—conceptual, abstract, or otherwise—recognizing impostor syndrome provided immediate clarity, allowing her to claim a psychological position. Rather than offering resolution, the work records lived psychological experience as ongoing, unresolved, and embodied.
