Artist Statement

My artistic practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of the metamorphosis of feelings and emotions, particularly how they manifest in visual form. Through my work, I investigate the ephemeral nature of human perception, the interplay of color, and the ways in which emotions transform over time.

Coming from a background in art research and museum work, I have developed a keen sensitivity to the historical and symbolic weight of images. My earlier project, Red Cloud, delved into the fleeting and intangible aspects of emotional states, capturing their volatility through visual language. This has evolved into broader research on how color, texture, and materiality can be used to convey sentiments that are often beyond verbal expression.

Currently, my work explores the interaction between physical form and emotional presence. Whether through painting, sculpture, or site-specific interventions, I seek to create spaces where viewers can engage in a dialogue with the artwork—not merely as observers, but as active participants in shaping its meaning. My ongoing project, La Nature des Sentiments et des Émotions, expands upon these ideas by examining the continuity of emotions in time and space, drawing inspiration from both traditional artistic techniques and contemporary conceptual approaches.

At the core of my practice is a desire to make art that lives and breathes within its environment—not as a static object, but as something that evolves alongside those who experience it.

Artist Biography

My name is Alexandre Sorokin. I am a multidisciplinary artist from Moscow, currently living and continuing my creative journey in Europe, specifically in France, while navigating the process of European integration. About 12 years ago, while working in a museum, I returned to visual art, where I have always been fascinated by the nature of emotions and feelings. I have been interested not only in how artists portray these emotions on their canvases but also in the artist’s drive to convey to the viewer what is difficult to express in words. This led to the creation of my ongoing project, Apparitions: Red Cloud, which I continue to develop, incorporating mediums such as ceramics, watercolor, and writing a story about a boy in a world of voices, focusing on exploring mental processes through the use of symbolism. My mediums are clay (used to create ceramic reflections of my art project), oil painting, and watercolour.
