Artist Statement

This work began in late May, marking a deeply spiritual journey of discovery and artistic transformation. I had long searched for a style that could capture not only the visual language of a city but also the unseen spirit that flows through it. The composition unfolds as a panoramic narrative of Melbourne’s cityscape — beginning with Southbank’s skyline and the pulse of Flinders Street Station, rising through the towers of St Kilda Road, and opening to the cultural beacon of the Arts Centre. The journey then bends toward nature, arriving at the palm trees and coastline that symbolize Melbourne’s softer, eternal rhythm. The title Melbourne Covid reflects both the era in which this piece was created and the resilience of the city during those years of stillness, adaptation, and reawakening. It is both a portrait of place and a meditation on collective spirit — what Melbourne is, and what it continues to become.
