Artist Statement

As an artist, I am fascinated by the exploration of themes. But once I am into the painting process, the aim is to make art in a way which closes the distance between the viewer and the art.

Artist Biography

Edwin Carter Weitz (b. 1963) has been making pictures and traversing visual concepts for nearly four decades. He has created an oeuvre that contains a remarkably broad array of modes and motifs.

A graduate of Iowa State University with a design degree, Weitz landed his first job as an associate designer at Bailey Lauerman — at the time a small advertising agency in Lincoln, NE, with a client roster of predominantly local accounts. At the age of 28, he was handed the reins of the creative department where he worked to transform the firm into a destination agency that has become well-known for its creative firepower and national client roster—including Union Pacific, Bosch, Phillips 66, AMC Theatres, Bass Pro Shops, Disney, and The Smithsonian Institution. The agency’s work has consistently been recognized in top industry award shows and publications, including being recognized as a National Agency of the Year by AdAge.

Midway through a successful career in advertising he began to move into the world of fine art where he has been making pictures and exploring visual concepts for over two decades. He has brought to the canvas his years of experience creating strong and memorable visual expressions from the world of commercial art, photography, and design for many of America’s most influential brands. Painting has now become his go-to source for visual expression. No other genre displays his pictorial and executional range more convincingly.
