Artist Statement

Window I is a meditation on solitude, distance, and quiet observation. From the darkness of an interior space, a faint glow emerges—subtle, distant lights beyond the window. The contrast between shadow and illumination creates a sense of longing, reflection, and the in-between space where presence meets absence.

Crafted through the labour-intensive process of mezzotint, this print embodies the act of uncovering—burnishing light out of complete darkness, much like the way we search for meaning in quiet, ordinary moments. The softness of the tonal transitions echoes the way memories blur and shift, inviting contemplation on what is near, what is far, and what lingers in between.

For me, Window I is about the small moments of stillness that hold unexpected depth—looking outward, yet turning inward at the same time. It invites the viewer to pause, to sit with the quiet, and to find beauty in the spaces that often go unnoticed.

Artist Biography

My artworks are an exploration of nostalgia—fragments of memory suspended in time. Through the slow, meditative process of pulling light from darkness, I look to capture fleeting moments that may otherwise go unnoticed and unappreciated.

Living with chronic illness has reshaped the way I see the world, deepening my appreciation for these quiet, everyday moments. Mezzotint, with its rich blacks and delicate highlights, mirrors the way memories exist—soft around the edges, yet deeply felt. Each piece invites the viewer to pause, reflect, and find beauty in the stillness of a single captured moment.
