Artist Statement

When creating this, I was inspired by the palpable love I have for my wife, and how finding our queer community has brought us together and also deeper relationships with not only each other but other folks who share similar ideology and social activism.

Artist Biography

Karly is an interdisciplinary artist working in collage, sculpture, painting, film, and poetry. Their work explores the ephemeral, fleeting nature of relationships, interactions, and memory. Currently, she is navigating how to communicate the axis of joy and grief as looked upon through nostalgic recollection through the dialogue of shapes and abstraction – like fragmented dreams colliding. She searches for the right piece of fabric, the right scrap, to try and recollect the past and imagine a new future. The objects that people pass by, she picks up. She’s drawn and attracted to the obscure and unseen. With a queer lens, She examines life around her with a microscope, exploring the negative space and the undiscovered crevices within our culture.
