Artist Statement

This piece began with gestural strokes in order to convey the essence of the painting. Once this was established, the face was developed, driven by the emotional input of the artist. It was done entirely with fan brushes.

Artist Biography

Liz Y Ahmet is a Turkish-Cypriot born and raised in the UK, who identifies as an expressive portrait artist. Being mainly self-taught, the catalyst for her work was an emotive portrait she drew at age six, after having watched a harrowing film. Her goal is to create compelling portraits using unpredictable mark-making – often described as “beauty in chaos.” Earlier this year, her scribble portrait Medea was selected as a British Art Prize Finalist. Her social media presence has enabled her to collaborate with exciting projects and businesses, such as album covers, merchandise, magazines and product designs, to name a few.
