Artist Profile Natalie Costea

Artist Statement

This piece is influenced by classical sculpture and Renaissance figure studies, where artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci focused on the perfection of the human body. The emphasis on anatomy and the use of light to highlight the musculature recalls Renaissance figure drawings, while the minimalist approach to the background reflects a more contemporary, modernist influence, where the focus is entirely on the human form as a work of art in itself.

Artist Biography

I’ve been painting since 2021, but my relationship with art has been lifelong. From an early age, I found myself drawn to sketching, using it as a way to break from reality. Art became my sanctuary, a place where I could escape the stresses of life and immerse myself in the quiet focus of creating. For years, I dabbled in sketching, fine-tuning my ability to capture details and shapes, which eventually laid the foundation for my transition into painting.

When I finally picked up a paintbrush, it opened up a whole new dimension of expression. Painting allowed me to play with color and texture in ways that sketching couldn’t. It became more than just creating something visually pleasing—it was a way to convey emotion and invite others into my world. My work often blends elements of reality with abstraction, creating pieces that are both familiar and otherworldly, allowing viewers to interpret the story behind each brushstroke.

Art, for me, is more than just a hobby; it’s a way of processing emotions and experiences. Whether through the fine lines of a sketch or the bold strokes of a painting, my work reflects the peace and clarity I find when I create. I hope those who view my art can experience that same sense of escape and connection.
