Artist Statement
In Recomposition No. 20, I explore the distinctive features of the Bauhaus movement, particularly its unique integration of art, architecture, and design. Drawing inspiration from Kandinsky’s abstract compositions, I harmoniously intertwine geometry and color. This reflects the Bauhaus ideology that values functionality and aesthetics. The piece is a visual dialogue juxtaposing structure with spontaneity, inviting viewers to reconsider conventional notions of space and form.
Through this artwork, I invite the audience to examine the intersection of rigid architectural forms and the often unpredictable essence of life. It celebrates the harmony found within chaos, revealing the beauty that emerges when structure and fluidity coexist. I aim to engage viewers in a contemplative experience that transcends the canvas’s physical boundaries, fostering a deeper appreciation for our spaces and the various forces that shape them.
Ultimately, this piece seeks to bridge the gap between art and architecture, sparking a dialogue on how these disciplines can mutually inform and enrich one another. It pays tribute to the enduring Bauhaus legacy and its profound influence on contemporary art and design, connecting viewers to a rich artistic heritage.
Artist Biography
I am a visual artist based in Queens, New York. My artistic journey began as a teenager when my father encouraged me to appreciate the architecture of my hometown, Bucharest. He taught me to observe and draw geometric forms with balance and proportions, instilling a deep analytical perception that has always influenced my work.
After moving to New York, I focused on capturing the city’s iconic architecture and vibrant communities. I explored various themes, examining the interplay of light and humanity in my photographs.
My artwork has received international recognition and has been showcased in several group exhibitions, including the Juried Exhibition at Huntington Arts Council in 2020, LIK Gallery in Vienna in 2021, and the Online Exhibition at the Visual Art Open in London in 2023. My project, ‘New York City Bauhaus,’ investigates trans-artistic movements in the US and has garnered positive responses. It was included in the 2024 International Juried Exhibition at The CENTER for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, NJ, and the LIC-A at Atlantic Gallery in New York City. I am proud of my work being selected for the Chianciano Biennale 2024 in Italy.
