Artist Biography
Sonia Roseval, a dynamic and thoughtful artist, was born in Tunis, Tunisia, and moved to Montreal as a child. Her father, a chemical engineer, and her mother, a talented seamstress, nurtured her curiosity and creativity. By age twelve, Sonia was already drawing portraits, setting the stage for her artistic journey. Self-taught but influenced by a supportive community and the spiritual guidance of Sri Chinmoy, Sonia developed her techniques through freehand drawing and deep intuition.
Meditation practices heavily inspire her work, and she often integrates her mother’s intricate sewing patterns, creating visual expressions that explore various levels of consciousness. Her travels enrich her perspective, while the works of masters like De Kooning and Cy Twombly resonate with her. Sonia is formally connected to the Lasalle Artist Association and L’Aquarium Foundation, which have supported her growth.
Sonia’s art has been showcased in numerous North American galleries, including the Marden Art Gallery and the Museum of Mont-Saint-Hilaire. She has garnered accolades such as the Honorable Mention at the 2023 AIMPE Japan, the 2024 Prize for Harmony for Humanity, and the International Prize Leonardo Da Vinci. Publications like Art in America have featured her, amplifying her global presence. Notable collectors include the L’Assemblée National du Quebec and the Aquarium Foundation in Montreal.
