Artist Statement
This piece hangs on people’s anxiety and sense of comfort. It is an Adirondack chair which is seen as a symbol of comfort and leisure. I took that and remade it with one of the most delicate materials, a material known for being easily broken. This gives the viewer both emotions and a sense of amazement at these two contradictory things. This contradiction is what makes this piece alluring.
Artist Biography
My name is Zachary Webb, I am a multimedia artist local to Pine City, New York. I am a new emerging artist. My work explores a wide variety of areas. typical games, or recreational activities, I take them and elevate them usually through the use of material or scale. I often use mediums such as glass, drawing, neon, etc, to express emotions, such as humor, whimsy, or confusion. I am inspired by the world and the amazing things out there. I enjoy the interaction with people whether it is socially, working collaboratively, or when they respond to my work. Recently I have been reimagining recreation objects and activities from my childhood. Looking closely at each piece in order to be able to recreate create them. All to recapture the joy that was once had with these long-overlooked things. Through shifting the scale of the objects and making them from interesting materials such as glass the objects lose their sense of functional stability for a sense of wonder. I am interested in showing people my perspective. I don’t like to be bored, but I also don’t like to be restrained.
